The best of East and West for international companies
In the heart of the “NEW EUROPE”
The CENTROPE region, strategically located in the heart of the “New Europe”, is one of the continent’s most dynamic economic regions. In contrast to Western Europe’s saturated markets, Eastern Europe offers enormous growth opportunities, with an economic expansion rate of up to five percent anticipated over the next few years. The CENTROPE region, bringing together neighboring areas in Austria, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary, offers enormous advantages to globally active companies. |
Henkel: Part of Production to be Transferred from Hungary to Vienna (http://www.wwff.gv.at/wwff.aspx?target=215560&l=2#show_215560)
Henkel has taken an unconventional approach in expanding its production in Austria. Whereas numerous companies are moving their manufacturing to Central and Eastern Europe due to high labor costs, Henkel is shutting down a detergent facility in Hungary and transferring at least part of the production to its factory in Vienna-Erdberg. For a long time, the plant has been manufacturing Persil, Silan and other products for the CEE markets. Vienna as a business location has paid off for Henkel, says Günter Thumser, President of “Henkel CEE", which is responsible for the CEE business operations of Düsseldorf-based Henkel Group. Henkel made the move, although labor costs are generally about seven times higher than in Eastern Europe. The competitive advantages of Vienna are its geographic location, as well as well-educated employees. Henkel intends to invest a total of 6.3 million euros in its Vienna facility this year. The production volume will be expanded from 168,000 to 200,000 tons. This will only have a minor impact on the job market, but will contribute to ensuring the viability of Vienna as a business location within Henkel Group.
